Paul has a passion for research that aims to improve the overall efficiency of the AEC industry, through the identification and reduction of wasteful processes and practices, that he has experienced over many years, since joining the industry in 1975.

Paul gained extensive construction industry experience in both the public and private sectors over a 20-year period, working for several clients, builders and project management consultants, in a variety of management roles.

Knowing that there must be a better way to ensure that successful projects can be delivered regularly, Paul joined the CSIRO’s Building, Construction and Engineering Division in 1995 as a Construction Systems Researcher, to investigate issues relating to construction process efficiency, industry benchmarking and how to develop indicators for measuring both project and industry performance. Based on research undertaken at CSIRO and subsequently at various national and international universities, Paul has developed and collaborated on numerous industry papers, reports and books; all focused on finding that ‘better way’.

Paul is currently a Lecturer and Tutor in Project Management at Queensland University of Technology and maintains his research interests in construction and project management efficiency, industry benchmarking, project procurement strategies, Lean construction, and design and documentation quality.
